BACKGROUND

Starting out in the 1980's with Pencil, pen&ink, oils, acrylics and finally to oil pastels I always created dark natured images. From skulls to scenes of mayhem i ventured into creating my own creatures. I always felt i wasnt accurately "fleshing" out the images that were in my head. Then the 1990's came along and photoshop was discovered. I had taken beginning and advanced photo(film) classes in high school , but my patience wouldnt support a love of film. In art classes at CCAC and high school i always disagreed with instructors about the content and direction of my art and so I claim more to be self taught. The same i feel is true in photography for me. I have unconventional views about what makes a good photo. While some maybe great at the technical aspects of photography they typically lack the"Eye". I think you can learn technical aspects along the way if you have an eye for things. In basketball they say you cant teach height and i think its the same for photography, you cant teach vision, it has to be there. In the late 1990's i picked up a Nikon Coolpix 990 and started snapping pics of anything that would sit in front of me. Then graduating into Digital SLR's made me start focusing on light and shadow , the balance between. I reside in Portland Oregon now which has a healthy undercurrent of sideshow material to keep me running around like a madman, which i have
been described as, many times.

APPROACH & STYLE

Mood, clarity and message, sometimes the art is in the reaction and the image merely the road to it. I have a Morbid imagination with Darkly tinged visions. Sometimes i shoot classic heesecake with a twist sometimes i make religeous zealots email me. I like helping out bands , independant fashion designers with no budget, models with nowhere to start. I always vote for the underdog. Most seek me out to darken there portfolios hallway, this is fine it is what i do. DIFFERENT is often used in onjunction with my work.

I also like using Photo Therapy (im no doctor just play one on the internet LOL), being able to change a persons mood and they way they see themselves through a shot i take is extremely rewarding. Also I have a current running project I call the Model Empathy Program, where i shoot other Photographer friends, so far Steve Diet-Goedde/Christine Kessler/Perry Gallagher/ Hypnox/ Kevin H/Allen Faulkner and a few more coming... maybe a book of shooters someday??
